I got the privilege of receiving a galley advanced reader copy of Elizabeth Rider’s first Book: The Health Habit. Holy cow. You guys, this book is a must read.
First off, let me start by saying I am a huge advocate of eating real whole foods. In fact, I teach my clients exactly that in my coaching programs and personally do not follow some crazy eating diet. There are so many extreme diet plans out there, most which leave people feeling defeated, discouraged and not any closer to their health goals.
This book is gold. Not only does it encourage ditching the diet and focusing on nourishing your body with real, whole foods, it also gives ideal numbers to shoot for (blood sugar, grams of fiber/sugar, etc) and explains how stress and our environment affects our health. Healthy recipes are also included (chicken tacos, anyone?) along with a 28-day Kick-Start Plan.
Optimal health includes much more than just what we eat. It’s a lifestyle. I loved how Elizabeth broke down different areas of health and wrote about why each one is important while providing tips for moving forward and incorporating them into your life. She also is straightforward about how taking responsibility for your health is a choice, something I appreciate.
A few of my favorite thoughts that I pulled from the book:
“The road to vibrant health should feel expansive, not restrictive”.
“Impacting the world and people around you becomes increasingly difficult if you don’t feel your best”. (Read more of my thoughts on that here)
“Consistency beats perfection every time because perfection doesn’t exist. No person is perfect”.
“Our lifestyle choices and healthy habits should ultimately make us feel free. If we don’t, we will eventually resent them”.
This book is such a well-rounded, beautiful picture of what a healthy lifestyle looks like. From the food we eat, the people we keep company with, the environment around us and the products we are putting on our body. Thank you, Elizabeth for writing such a respectable book. I am a huge fan and will be adding this to my book recommendation list. I’ve already pre-ordered my copy. 😉
The Health Habit will be available August 20th, 2019. You can find it on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other major retailers.
